We are all familiar with the myriad of important reasons, urgent distractions and highly attractive shiny things that we use to avoid doing or focusing on the things we know we should – the things that move us towards becoming the version of ourselves we want to be.
If we are honest with ourselves, we can all recognise that sense of relief we secretly harbour when a really good excuse arises to postpone or abandon something challenging, ‘scary’ or uncomfortable that will move us closer to our dreams.
That ancient part of our brain, designed to keep us safely in our familiar territory so the lions don’t eat us and the neighbouring tribe don't attack us, is a powerful force that operates largely in our subconscious. It causes most people to argue for their struggle and limitation all day long, and fight for that negative reality with all the reasons they can’t do or be… whatever it is they believe they want. Further more, they will also argue for YOUR limitations and why YOU can’t.
It can take a lot of courage and fortitude not to buy into their idea of reality and their perceived boundaries or what their 'primordial' brain believes is safe. We all want to belong after all, and not bonding over our shared grievances, struggles or limits initially goes against the grain for many of us.
Overcoming this hard-wired habit however, is the single most important thing we can do to create the reality we are dreaming of. If we can re-wire that old instinct and develop a new more resourceful habit, everything else becomes easier, and we can move from resistance to flow.
The first step is to become acutely aware of it - To begin to recognise all the sneaky guises it takes on to fool us into it’s version of ‘safety’. Writing down all those thoughts, emotions and actions that happen when you notice it leading you away from your desired path, can help bring it into your conscious mind where you can face it more effectively. Each time we notice it creating those self-sabotaging thoughts/feelings/actions we can thank it for trying to protect us but consciously decline it’s ‘assistance’.
What if we can then switch sides and argue for the defense of our idea, not the prosecution, and redirect all that energy into relentlessly arguing for why we CAN? What if we argue passionately for possibility? Asking: How CAN I…(insert desire here)…? And let our imagination take us to all the places that might lead? If you can hard-wire that habit instead, what could you achieve?
The science of quantum mechanics and particle physics, shows us that matter does not create matter - Energy directed by consciousness creates matter or physical reality. Physicality creates nothing and is powerless to dictate our potential unless we give it power. As the famous double slit experiment that I discussed in my last post demonstrates, the act of observation causes energy to take form as particles - so what you notice and focus on matters. It defines us as the ultimate creators of our own experience.
You can find evidence of darkness, struggle and limitation all day long and focus on that if that’s what you want to prove for yourself, OR, you can find endless evidence of possibility, abundance, opportunity and people who have been able to to take from nothing and create something amazing all day long instead. Your reality only consists of what you choose to notice and allow yourself to acknowledge. We are simple living, breathing information filters.
In any given moment we are exposed to as much as 400 BILLION bits of information per second that our brain could be aware of, but our mind can only effectively take in and process around 2000 of those possibilities and can only visually process around 1% of that information it takes in. The rest is filtered out as as unimportant or not useful.
So, right now, in this moment of almost endless possibility… What do you choose to see, to notice, to think and to accept as your reality?
